People who want to pay their respects to Drummer Lee Rigby on the day of his military funeral have been told where they can view his cortege from.

The funeral takes place in Bury, Greater Manchester, on Friday morning.

Police and councils have designated "suitable roads" for members of the public to line once his body leaves Bury Parish Church.

Drummer Rigby, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was killed near his army barracks in London, in May.

Greater Manchester Police said people should line Rochdale Road from Bury town centre to Heap Bridge if they wish to pay their respects to Drummer Rigby.

Others can line the route on Hollin Lane between Langley Lane and Rochdale Road as the cortege travels through Middleton.

A private committal will take place at Middleton Cemetery.

Members of the public are asked to line these routes between 11:30 BST and 12:15 BST. The funeral will be a private service at Bury Parish Church, broadcast to those outside via a loudspeaker.

Colin Lambert, leader of Rochdale Council, has called on all residents to line the streets of Bury or sign the book of condolence.

Bury has strong links with Drummer Rigby's regiment - 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers - which has its roots in the Bury-based Lancashire Fusiliers.

Two men are due to go on trial in November accused of Drummer Rigby's murder.

They are Michael Adebolajo, 28, from Romford, east London, and Michael Adebowale, 22, from Greenwich, south-east London.

Mr Adebolajo is also accused of the attempted murder of two police officers and possession of a firearm with intent to cause others to believe that violence would be used.
