Police have been granted extra time to question four people arrested over the disappearance of a mother-of-three they believe might have been killed.

Rania Alayed, 25, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, has not been seen since early June.

One person was arrested on suspicion of murder and two over assisting an offender on Thursday.

A 38-year-old man from Salford was arrested on Friday on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police now have until Monday to interview the 33-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder, and the 55-year-old woman and man of 64 held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The courts also granted detectives until Tuesday to continue to question the 38-year-old man arrested on Friday.

Detectives said they were treating it as a missing person inquiry but said they could not rule out the possibility she has been harmed.

It was extremely out-of-character for her to disappear in this way, they added.

Ms Alayed moved to Manchester in January from the north-east of England.
