Woman raped in 'violent attack' in Altrincham alleyway

A 30-year-old woman was raped in a "violent attack" in an alleyway in Greater Manchester, police said.

Officers believe it happened shortly after the victim met the attacker outside the Nicholson nightclub in Altrincham at about 02:15 GMT.

The victim walked off with him but as they got to a nearby gated alleyway he tried to strangle her before punching her unconscious and raping her.

Det Ch Insp Jill Clarke described it as "a truly vile attack".

It is believed the offender ran off in the direction of Lloyd Street.

He is described by police as white, about 25 years old, 5ft 11in (1.8m) tall, medium build with short dark hair.

Police said he was distinctly dressed in a smart dark pinstripe shirt, black waistcoat, a pink tie and smart shoes.

Ms Clarke said this type of attack was extremely rare in Altrincham and high visibility patrols were now in place in the area.
