Three injured in pressure washer 'fireball' in Walkden

The fire service said the fire involved a diesel industrial pressure washer

Three people were injured when a "fireball" erupted from a pressure washer as a tanker was cleaned in Greater Manchester.

The fire service was called to Harcourt Street, Walkden, at about 14:10 GMT. Three ambulances and the air ambulance were then dispatched.

Three men, aged 54, 31 and 32, were taken to hospital suffering from burns.

A fire service spokesman said the fire involved an industrial pressure washer that was powered by diesel.

The ambulance service confirmed the 54-year-old and the 31-year-old were taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with facial burns.

A 32-year-old was taken to Hope Hospital suffering from burns to the arms.

Paul Smitham, from Greater Manchester Fire Service, said: "We hope that the people injured make a speedy recovery from this.

"Our crews worked hard at the scene to bring the fire under control and with the help of partners we were able to minimise disruption to the community."

He added: "We will be looking into what caused the fire."

Residents nearby have been advised to close doors and windows as a precautionary measure.
