Woman dies in metal gate fall in Greater Manchester

A woman has died after a metal gate fell onto her in Greater Manchester, police said.

Officers were called to the scene at Whitefield Business Centre, off Bury Old Road, at 10:40 GMT on Sunday.

Police found a 68-year-old woman who had suffered head injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene, a force spokesman said.

Health and safety officials at Bury Council are helping with the investigation into what happened.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A council spokesman said the woman was thought to have been going into a unit at the business centre when the gate she was opening came off its hinges.
