Police searching for an Indian student, last seen at a New Year's Eve warehouse party, have appealed at the Manchester United v Liverpool match.

Liverpool fan Souvik Pal, 19, was seen leaving Trafford's Warehouse Project, which is less than a mile from the Old Trafford stadium.

A week-long search has included divers checking the Manchester Ship Canal near the club night venue.

His father, Santanu Pal, has travelled from India to look for his son.

Mr Pal and friends of the Manchester Metropolitan University undergraduate took part in a silent walk from the football ground on Saturday.

Match appeal

Details about the student, who worked part-time selling refreshments at Manchester United, were flashed on the pitch-side digital advertising board and there was an announcement before kick off.

Det Ch Insp Colin Larkin said: "The police and the family of Souvik Pal are grateful to Manchester United for their support for this appeal.

"Souvik was last seen near the Warehouse Project, which is not far from Old Trafford.

"We hope that there could be someone among the crowd who may have some information that could help."

Mr Pal was described as 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, of slim build and with an Indian accent. He has a scar on the right side of his forehead.

When last seen, he was wearing a pale denim long-sleeved shirt with a collar, grey chino trousers and navy blue leather boots.
