Manchester pensioner struck by iron bar in £4 robbery

An 82-year-old man was battered with an iron bar in his own home by a masked burglar who went on to steal £4.

The victim was lying on his sofa at his home in Middleton Road, Manchester, when the offender broke in and hit him several times with an iron bar.

The robber eventually left with just £4 after searching the house, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Serg Chris Flint said: "This was an unwarranted attack on an elderly man and the offender needs to be caught."

The victim suffered cuts to his head and an injury to his arm but he did not require hospital treatment.
