M56 in Greater Manchester reopens after bridge work
The bridge is part of the tram link to the airport
A motorway in Greater Manchester has re-opened after the installation of a bridge as part of a Metrolink tram line extension.
The M56 closed between junctions five and two from 22:00 GMT on Saturday.
Earlier in November the M60 was closed for the fitting of a bridge as part of the same extension, and reopened eight hours ahead of schedule.
The extended Metrolink line will connect the city centre with Manchester Airport.
The Highways Agency said closing the motorway was the only way to ensure the bridges could be installed safely.
