A Wythenshawe man has been jailed for the sexual abuse of three young girls in the 1970s and 80s.

Charles Simpson, 60, of Longhey Road, Benchill pleaded guilty to 14 counts of indecent assault of the girls, which he confirmed took place between 1977 and 1985.

The girls were between five and 11 years old when the offences took place.

Simpson was jailed for four years at Manchester Crown Court and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Det Con Suzanne Keenaghan said Simpson had "abused the trust the children and their parents placed in him and subjected them to a number of sexual assaults over a prolonged period of time".

"Thankfully, the victims were brave enough to come forward and ensure Simpson would not get away with his crimes," she said.

"They have all been left mentally scarred by the abuse they received and I hope the sentence Simpson has received may go some way to helping mend these scars."
