Gangs 'a priority' for police and crime commissioner

A former gang member in Manchester believes guns and gangs should remain "a priority" for the city's new police and crime commissioner (PCC).

According to Greater Manchester Police, the number of shootings in the area has fallen sharply from 146 incidents in 2007 to 39 in 2011.

But a spate of shootings in Salford, including the murder of Indian student Anuj Bidve last Christmas, show the use of guns by gangs has not gone away.

Warren Williams, who helps young people leave gangs, is warning that gang membership is more widespread than it used to be.

The PCC elections are being held on 15 November.
