Two arrested after attack leaves Bury woman in 'critical condition'

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an attack on a woman left her in a "critical condition" with head injuries.

Police were called to a house on Broad Oak Lane in Bury by paramedics who were treating the 43-year-old victim at around 02:00 BST on Thursday.

Police said they were keeping an "open mind" about the cause of her injuries.

The 54-year-old man remains in police custody. A second man, 49, has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The spokesman said the woman was "in a critical condition" in hospital and undergoing treatment for her injuries.

Det Insp Terry Crompton said detectives were "still at a very early stage in our inquiries and we do not want anyone to rush to any conclusions about what has happened here".

He said officers were continuing with inquiries at Broad Oak Lane and a second address on Topping Fold Road to establish the circumstances surrounding her injuries.
