Rochdale sex assault on woman prompts patrols

A young woman was subjected to a "horrible ordeal" during a serious sexual assault by two men in Rochdale, police said.

The 23-year-old was walking in the Ramsay Street area at 15:00 BST on Sunday when the men approached and dragged her down a side street.

She was then sexually assaulted by both men in Garden Lane, in what officers are treating as an isolated incident.

Police described the men as Asian, in their mid 20s and about 5ft 6in tall.

One had dark flat hair, was clean shaven, wearing a black hoodie and dark track suit bottoms. He had dark brown eyes and a pointy nose.

The other offender had short spiky hair clean shaven and was wearing a dark hoody with jeans.

Officers have stepped up patrols in the area, with the victim now being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Insp Debbie Dooley, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "It is quite right that all communities are appalled by such an attack and I want to reassure both the victim and residents that we are doing all we can to bring the offenders to justice.

"Can I ask that people recall where they were on Sunday afternoon and whether they saw anything out of the ordinary?"
