A man critically injured when a Lamborghini crashed in Greater Manchester had hired the car as a 21st birthday treat for his son.

The 58-year-old driver was taking his son on a drive in the high-speed car when it overturned off a runway at Woodford Aerodrome near Stockport.

Police said he lost control of the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder at about 11:00 BST.

The man's son suffered minor bruising in the crash.

Officers found the car upside down in the garden of a nearby house. No other vehicle was involved.

Sgt Danny Byrne, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "We believe the vehicle was being driven at a high speed and it is likely the driver may have lost control."
