Woman murdered in Bolton in a 'targeted attack'

The scene in Queen's Street, Farnworth Queen's Street has been cordoned off while officers carry out the investigation

A murder inquiry has begun after a woman was killed in a "targeted attack" in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Police were called at about 13:00 BST on Monday after the victim, 31, was found in Queen's Street, Farnworth.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of the woman who has not been identified.

Greater Manchester Police said officers in Bolton were working with detectives on the major incident team on the inquiry into the woman's death.

"Clearly there will be very understandable anxiety in this community at the death of this young woman," Supt Steve Nibloe said.

"First and foremost, our thoughts are with this woman's family following her tragic death.

"I want to try and reassure people who may be concerned that at this stage we do not believe this was a random attack."

He said there will be an increased police presence in the Farnworth area in the next few days.

"Our inquiry is now focused on trying to locate the person or persons responsible and I would also appeal to anyone who has information to come forward," said Supt Nibloe.
