Tributes have been paid to a 23-year-old man stabbed to death after what police believe was an argument at a party in Greater Manchester.

Stuart Smith was found by police with serious torso injuries at about 03:00 BST on Monday in Rutland Road, Tyldesley. He died later in hospital.

Detectives believe he was attacked following a disagreement at a party in nearby Devon Road.

His family said he was a "loveable character and will be sadly missed".

In a statement, the family said: "Stuart was a happy loving son, grandson, uncle, cousin, brother and friend.

"He always had a smile on his face and it is tragic he has been taken away from us at such a young age.

"Stuart was thoughtful, kind and always there for his nieces and nephews."

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is still being questioned, police said.
