The family of a baby boy from Bolton, whose parents were arrested on suspicion of murder, has paid tribute to a "much loved" family member.

Six-week-old Mohammed Ismail died from unknown causes at Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital on Friday.

His parents Shakeel Hussain, 24, and Rabeel Malik, 22, from Heaton, were arrested on suspicion of his murder on Tuesday and bailed until April.

The baby's grandfather said it had been "an extremely difficult time".

He added: "Ismail was a much loved member of our family and our thoughts remain with his parents at this terrible time."

Mohammed had been admitted to Royal Bolton Hospital on 5 January, after paramedics were called to his family home in Heaton.

He was later transferred to Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital, where he died.

A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday, and police said tests were ongoing to establish the exact cause of death.
