Lorry demo blocks Metrolink line

Tram protest at Salford Quays Services were temporarily halted on the service

Greater Manchester's Metrolink tram system was disrupted when protesters blocked the line with lorries at Salford Quays.

Services to Eccles and MediaCityUK were suspended while police negotiated with the demonstrators before the lorries were removed near the Anchorage stop.

The protest was over the closure of Grace Scaffolding Limited, in Salford.

Anthony Parkinson, one of the drivers, said: "We've lost our jobs six weeks before Christmas."

Six lorries were parked across tram lines in a protest involving 15 workers from the company.

No-one from the company, which employs 32 people and which is based in Mode Wheel Road South, was available for comment.

A statement from RSM Tenon, which was appointed administrator on 11 November, said it was looking to find a buyer for the business
