Officers were called to Portrush Street in Tuebrook at about 06:20 on Saturday. Emma Burns, 31, was taken to hospital but died on Wednesday.

A post-mortem investigation into the cause of death is due to take place.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm, Merseyside Police said.

Police are appealing for the driver of a Hackney cab, thought to have picked up a man in his 30s from the Liverpool Lime Street area, and taken him to Garsfield Road, Walton, at around the time of the assault, to come forward.
