Kaiya Blake: Serious case review into girl's death

Kaiya Blake Kaiya Blake was found dead at her home in Moss Side

A serious case review is to be carried out into the death of a four-year-old girl in Manchester.

The body of Kaiya Blake was discovered at her home in Moss Side in September. Her mother Chantelle Blake has since been charged with her murder.

Manchester City Council confirmed they had had contact with the family prior to the incident.

The Manchester Safeguarding Children Board said a review would be carried out to see if lessons could be learned.

A serious case review is usually carried out in the event of the death of or reported serious harm to a child.

Chairman Ian Rush said the review would look at the involvement that organisations and professionals had with Kaiya and her family.

Ms Blake, 31, appeared at Manchester Crown Court in September charged with murder.

A provisional trial date has been set for 5 March 2012.
