The life of a Hulme tower block documented in film

Help

A short film which documents life in one of Hulme's last remaining tower blocks has gone on show at Manchester Art Gallery.

"Hi High Rise" looks at Hornchurch Court, one of the few towers in Hulme which survived the 1990s' demolition that claimed much of the area's post-war architecture.

Film-makers Jan and Emily Dixon, who are residents of the block, made the short film, which reflects on Hornchurch's diverse population - including its first-ever resident "George", caretaker "Patrick" and writer and musician John Robb.

Jan Dixon said that, on moving to the block, the pair were "instantly gripped by the experience of living in this vertical micro-community, and by the differences between our expectations and reality".

The film-makers have allowed the BBC access to a trailer of the film.
