The Valentino store in central London has been targeted by a moped-riding gang in a smash-and-grab raid.

Five people arrived at the Sloane Square, Chelsea store on three scooters at about 00:30 BST and broke down the door with a moped, police said.

The group took a number of designer handbags from the luxury boutique before riding off towards Marylebone and Kilburn.

Police said one man had been arrested in Ladbroke Grove and was in custody.

Following the arrest, police recovered a scooter but no stolen property.

The raid comes days after a similar incident on 28 July at the Larizia store in St John's Wood High Street, north west London, when handbags valued at about £100,000 were taken.

Seven people were arrested in relation to that robbery and have been bailed to appear in August.

Scotland Yard said it was too early to say if the latest raid was linked to any others.
