A driver walked away with minor injuries after his car crashed into railings and ended up in the entrance of a subway in south-east London.

The car left the road at about 20:00 BST on Tuesday and went into the subway at the Elephant and Castle roundabout, Scotland Yard said.

London Ambulance Service said the male driver in his 30s and a female passenger in her 20s were treated for an arm and facial injuries.

The subway was temporarily closed.

London Fire Brigade said some nearby roads were also closed while it retrieved the car.
