Inquiry after man dies in police cell in Uxbridge

An arrested man has died in custody in a police cell.

The 57-year-old had been held on suspicion of criminal damage to a motor vehicle at about 15:30 BST on Monday in Hillingdon, west London.

He was taken to Uxbridge police station but when he was checked at about 07:30 BST on Tuesday he was "unresponsive" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission is leading the inquiry into the death.

The un-named dead man's next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination is due to take place on Thursday.
