A cleaning firm contracted to clean the glass front of the 87-storey The Shard is looking for two unemployed window cleaners with "some abseil experience".

The advert on Good People, a social enterprise firm, says it is looking for "vertical window cleaners" living in the borough of Southwark.

Applicants, who could earn up to £390 a week, need "cradle work experience", but abseiling was a "desirable" skill.

The 310m (1,016ft) skyscraper is one of the tallest buildings in Europe.

The job offer appeared on the website about 40 hours ago and a spokesman for Good People said they had already received at least 10 applications.

The position is promoted as: "Do you want to take your career to new heights? We are looking for two experienced vertical window cleaners to work at the Shard and beyond."

The successful candidates, who would need to work for eight hours, six days a week, could also work on other tall buildings.

The social enterprise firm said its aim was to find jobs for unemployed people in the borough and over the past year had found employment for more than a 100 people at The Shard.

A spokesman for the Shard, which is next to London Bridge station, said the job was being advertised by a contractor.
