A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a mother and her young daughter were found dead in Hackney.

The 45-year-old woman and the girl, aged 23 months, were pronounced dead at a home in Oswald Mead.

The Met Police said officers were called out just after 09:00 BST to reports of three people being injured.

A 53-year-old man was taken to an east London hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was later arrested but remains in hospital.

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Neighbours, who gathered near the terraced house, expressed their shock while floral tributes were left for the dead mother and child.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

The force has also referred previous contact with the victim to the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
