A psychiatric patient who absconded from a mental health unit for a second time has been found.

Mark Ricketts, 47, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, escaped from Springfield Hospital, Tooting, south London, on Saturday.

Police said he was found on a bus in Lewisham, south-east London, on Thursday morning.

Ricketts was placed under psychiatric care after he stabbed a stranger at Tooting Broadway Tube station in 1993.

He first escaped from Springfield Hospital in 2004 while he was on a day visit from Broadmoor Hospital where he was being treated for mental health problems.

An investigation found he absconded after staff took him on an unplanned walk outside a secure area.
