Men storm Edmonton Green train with baseball bats

A gang armed with baseball bats and poles stormed a train at a north London railway station and attacked a man, leaving him with head injuries.

Officers were called to Edmonton Green station in Enfield at around 19:00 GMT on Tuesday to reports of a group of men smashing windows on a train.

The train was taken out of service.

A 23-year-old man from Mile End was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and causing grievous bodily harm. He has been released on bail.

A 28-year-old man with head injuries was taken to hospital for treatment.

'Planned attack'

British Transport Police (BTP) said there had been an altercation between two men on the 18:15 Greater Anglia service from Liverpool Street to Enfield.

When the train arrived at Edmonton Green station two men met the train, in what police believe was a planned attack following the dispute onboard.

Two windows were smashed with baseball bats and poles and the train was taken out of service.

On Twitter, Kayleigh Jade, wrote: "Everyone ran to end carriage where I was and there was screaming, crushing.

"Doors wouldn't open so someone broke them."

She added: "I can't even tell you how terrifying it was. People thought it was a fire then realised they were screaming fight."

Officers investigating the incident are searching for two men they believe ran from the scene across the tracks.

Chief Supt Paul Brogden, from BTP, said: "Although we are in the early stages of the incident, from our enquiries we believe the attack was planned following the onboard altercation."

He added that as part of the investigation officers were viewing CCTV from the train and surrounding areas.
