Six rescued from fire at flats in Tottenham Court Road

Six people have been rescued from a fire on the fourth floor of a block of flats in central London.

About 60 firefighters are tackling the fire in Tottenham Court Road which started at about 14:55 GMT, said London Fire Brigade.

The people rescued have been treated for the effects of smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.

Tottenham Court Road has been reopened after it was closed to traffic northbound from University Street.

Eight fire engines were sent to the scene.
