Police officer headbutted and bitten during arrest

A policeman was taken to hospital after being headbutted, bitten and attacked with his own baton while trying to arrest a man in north-east London.

It happened after police were called to a car crash in Waltham Forest at 01:18 GMT.

A Met spokesman said the police officer had tried to arrest a man for drink-driving when he was attacked.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The injured officer was taken to hospital with cuts to his head and hands and has since been discharged.
