Man charged after pensioner raped in Chessington

A 22-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder and rape of a woman in her 70s in south-west London.

Police were called to reports of a burglary and rape at a residential address in Chessington on Wednesday at 06:35 BST.

Metropolitan Police said the man was due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court.

The woman continues to be treated in hospital and her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
