Two killed in Leicestershire light aircraft crash

Two people were killed when the light aircraft they were in crashed into fields in Leicestershire.

The crash happened in Fenny Drayton at about 18:45 BST on Sunday, Leicestershire Police said.

A man and woman on board, both described as elderly by police, were confirmed dead at the scene by an air ambulance paramedic.

It is believed the plane took off from an airstrip near Tywcross Zoo and was heading to Stoke Golding airfield.

The scene has been cordoned off.

Police officers are working with the Air Accident Investigations Branch to establish the cause of the crash.

The pair have yet to be formally identified, police said.
