Brixton eviction shooting suspect on attempted murder charge

A man has been charged with attempted murder after shots were fired as two people tried to evict a tenant from a house in south London.

The incident took place in Strathleven Road in Brixton on Wednesday morning.

A man and a woman, both 59, were shot in the hip and leg and are in hospital.

Andrew Stephenson, 50, of Strathleven Road, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, police said.

He has also been charged with possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life, possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition for a section 1 firearm without a certificate.

Mr Stephenson will appear at Camberwell Magistrates' Court on Friday.
