Man held in Dorset over historical child sex abuse allegations

A man has been arrested by police investigating historical allegations of child sex abuse.

Charles Napier, 65, was arrested in Dorset by officers from the Metropolitan Police.

Mr Napier is the half-brother of John Whittingdale, the Conservative MP and chairman of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

Mr Whittingdale said: "If allegations have been made against him then I accept they should be investigated."

On Wednesday a Met spokesman said: "Officers from Operation Fairbank have arrested a 65-year-old man in connection with a historical allegation of sexual assault.

"The man was arrested at an address in Dorset and has been taken into custody locally.

"This arrest is part of a new strand of Operation Fairbank entitled Operation Cayacos, which has now reached the criminal threshold."
