Murder probe in Thamesmead after man has throat slashed

A man has been found with his throat slashed in south-east London, sparking a murder investigation.

Officers were called to Thamesmead at about 14:00 BST on Saturday after a disturbance.

The London Ambulance also attended but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been formally identified, but next of kin have not been informed.

A post-mortem examination held on Sunday gave the cause of death as incised wounds to the throat.

A man aged in his 50s was arrested nearby and is in custody at a south London police station.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating.

An incident room has opened at Sutton Police Station under Det Ch Insp John McFarlane.
