A man has been charged with the murder of a family friend of Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand.

Rio McFarlane, 18, was shot in the chest in Peckham, south London, in September 2010.

Leon Pacquette, 24, of Camberwell, was also charged with the attempted murder of another man and possession of a firearm and a prohibited weapon.

After Mr McFarlane's death Ferdinand made a video appeal for information.

The footballer grew up in the same area as Mr McFarlene, who himself had had football trials with both Arsenal and Blackpool.

A 25-year-old man has been released on bail pending further inquiries until later this month.
