Cyclist dies in hit-and-run collision in Leytonstone

A cyclist has died in a suspected hit-and-run incident in east London.

The 56-year-old victim died following a collision with the a car on Gainsborough Road, outside Leytonstone Tube station, on Saturday.

The driver of the car failed to stop and the vehicle, a silver Peugeot 206, was found abandoned nearby.

Later the Met Police arrested three teenagers, aged 16, 18 and 19. They have since been bailed pending further inquires.

A post-mortem examination will take place and an inquest will open and adjourn in due course.

The man's family has been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place about 06:30 GMT.
