Golders Green Tube trains halted after robbery

Robbers reported to have run on to the tracks on the Tube forced police to hold trains at Golders Green station.

Northern Line services were suspended between Camden Town and Edgware at about 12:30 GMT.

The Metropolitan Police said a group of youths had entered the shop before making off in the direction of the station.

A spokesman said two people had been arrested and some items had been recovered.

Passenger Allice Moss said the train driver told passengers there had been a robbery at a phone shop and the suspects had run on to the track.

She said they were held on the train in the station with the doors shut for about 20 minutes.

'Lot of confusion'

"There was a lot of confusion but eventually the driver announced that there had been a robbery at a phone shop and the suspects had run off down the track.

"When we were allowed off the train there were police there with sniffer dogs."

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said officers from the force and the Metropolitan Police had been called to the station following a report of people on the line.

"An extensive search of the tracks was carried out by BTP officers but to no avail," he said.

He urged anyone with information to contact the BTP.
