More London families choosing not to leave capital

Tens of thousands of people who would have moved out of London with their families in previous generations have decided to stay.

According to data from the Office of National Statistics, in the past seven years a total of 250,000 who would have previously left the capital have not.

"My parents think I'm mad," said Emma Alleyne.

She and her husband have extended their terraced home in Richmond to accommodate their family of four children.

Prof Christine Whitehead, of the London School of Economics, said the number remaining was growing by about 50,000 a year.
