Streatham High Road wasteland blaze leaves two dead

Two people have died and another is critically ill after a fire on wasteland in south London.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Streatham High Road, Streatham, just after 02:20 GMT.

Two bodies were discovered and a 54-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to burns.

Crews took just over an hour to bring the fire under control. The incident is being investigated by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.

A statement from the Met said: "We retain an open mind at this early stage regarding the circumstances of the fire and the deaths."
