Woman injured in Marylebone car park fire

A woman has been hurt in a fire that broke out in a car park and led to the closure of a major central London road.

London Fire Brigade said about 150 people were evacuated from a block of flats above the NCP car park near Marylebone Road at about 16:10 BST.

Police said the road was closed so an air ambulance could land and take the woman, who suffered serious burns, to a hospital in Essex.

The road has reopened and the evacuees have been allowed to return home.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers were called to reports of a woman injured in a fire in the car park in Glentworth Street, off Marylebone Road.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said about 30 firefighters had attended.

She said a car was destroyed by fire on the lower ground level of the building, and the woman was located on the ground floor suffering from burns.

The road was shut for about 40 minutes, causing traffic delays and buses to be diverted.
