Squatter in London flat jailed under new law
A 21-year-old man squatting in a central London property has become the first person to be jailed under the new anti-squatting law.
Alex Haigh from Plymouth was arrested by police at the flat in Cumberland Street, Pimlico, on 2 September.
Haigh, who admitted to squatting in a residential property, was jailed for 12 weeks by Westminster Magistrates' Court.
But neighbours seemed surprised at the sentence.
