Man stabbed several times in Notting Hill

A man is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after suffering multiple stab wounds in an attack in west London, police said.

Police were called to Golborne Road, Notting Hill at 11:35 BST.

The injured man, aged in his 30s, is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a fight taking place beside a market stall, but no arrests have been made at this stage, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

'Sustained attack'

BBC reporter Anna Adams said police closed down the usually busy market while forensics staff arrived.

Market traders witnessed what they described as "a vicious and sustained attack" at a Moroccan fish stall serving snacks.

The area is particularly busy on Fridays with tourists visiting the antique market and Portobello Road, and worshippers going to the nearby mosque for Friday prayers.

One eyewitness said: "People were queuing to buy lunch there, then suddenly there was an argument and one of the workers grabbed a fish knife and started stabbing the other man then ran off.

"It was a brutal attack and he'll be lucky to survive.

"I've been a market trader here for decades and it's usually such a peaceful place.

"Everyone was in shock and screaming. There were tourists and locals watching in horror as they sat outside in the cafes nearby."
