Five hurt in stabbing in Thornton Heath, south London

Five people have been taken to hospital with stab wounds after what police called a "disturbance" in south London.

London Ambulance Service was called just before 17:00 BST to Thornton Heath High Street, Thornton Heath. An air ambulance and four land crews went out.

Four of the injured are men in their 20s, while the age and sex of the fifth is not known, an ambulance service spokeswoman said. All were "conscious and breathing" when taken to hospital.

A number of arrests have been made.

The Metropolitan Police said inquiries were continuing into the stabbings.

Transport for London has closed Thornton Heath High Street in both directions between Whitehorse Road and Grange Park Road.
