Man 'critical' after stabbing in Bankside near Thames

A Canadian man is in a critical condition after he was stabbed in an apparently unprovoked attack while walking alongside the River Thames.

The 41-year-old was attacked at about 00:10 GMT on Friday, while walking along Bankside between the Anchor Bankside pub and Southwark Bridge.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he is currently being treated.

The victim, an IT expert, was carrying a skateboard at the time he was attacked. No arrests have been made.

He lives in the Southwark area of south London.

Detectives said the knifeman was male, about 6ft tall, and was wearing a dark or grey hooded top.

Det Sgt Nick Blackburn said: "This was a seemingly unprovoked and callous attack, and we are obviously extremely keen to speak with anyone who might have information that could help us to identify the culprit."
