Fire breaks out at the Brixton Academy music venue

Up to 20 firefighters have tackled a blaze that broke out in the early hours at the 02 Academy in Brixton.

Firefighters were called before 0400 GMT to reports of an alarm at the Stockwell Road venue, which was closed.

The bar of the three-storey building was damaged but no-one was injured, London Fire Brigade said. The fire was brought under control by 0530 GMT.

The south London venue is one of the London's most popular venues and has played hosts to many leading acts.
