Metal thieves targeting south London hospitals

Metal thieves have targeted at least two hospitals in south London in recent months, it has emerged.

Stansted Airport and police communications systems have also been victims of thefts, in addition to numerous stretches of railway track in south-east England.

The price of copper has increased dramatically over the past decade and British Transport Police has warned that some scrap-metal dealers are "clearly operating outside the law".

An investigation for BBC One's The Politics Show found one dealer in London who was offering £800 per tonne for copper which was clearly marked as belonging to BT.
