Mayor: 'I misunderstood severity of hacking allegations'

London mayor Boris Johnson has faced tough questions following the resignations of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and Assistant Commissioner John Yates.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, he again defended comments made last year when he described the phone hacking claims as "politically motivated codswallop".

He said he had misunderstood the severity of the allegations.
