A female pedestrian in her 90s has been knocked down and killed near Baker Street Tube station in central London.

She was hit by a lorry on Marylebone Road at about 1200 BST on Friday and died shortly afterwards in hospital.

The motorist involved has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Scotland Yard said.

The resulting police investigation led to the closure of the A501 westbound outside Madam Tussauds for five hours. The road has now reopened.

Transport for London said it had suspended the congestion charge zone around Marylebone Road so drivers could try to find alternative routes.
