Singer Pete Doherty charged with cocaine possession

Miss Whitehead was found dead in January in Hackney

Singer Pete Doherty has been charged with one count of possession of cocaine following an inquiry into the death of a filmmaker.

Robin Whitehead, 27, a member of the Goldsmith family who was working on a documentary on the singer, was found dead in a flat in Hackney in January.

Another man, Peter Wolfe, 42, of Bury St Edmunds, was charged with possessing and supplying cocaine.

A third man, Alan Wass, 29, of west London, was charged with possession.

All three remain on bail and are due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on 18 October.

Both Mr Wolfe, of Suffolk, and Mr Wass, also a singer from Bramley Road, are friends of the 31-year-old Babyshambles front man.

Documentary on band

Mr Wolfe faces two counts of possessing cocaine and one charge of supplying Class A drugs.

The charges relate to an offence alleged to have taken place between 21 and 25 January, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The Babyshambles singer was one of four people questioned following Ms Whitehead's death from a suspected overdose.

Miss Whitehead, the granddaughter of the late Teddy Goldsmith, was making a documentary - The Road to Albion - on Mr Doherty's former band The Libertines.
