Woman dies after flat block fire in Paddington

A woman has died following a fire at a four-storey flat block in west London.

London Fire Brigade was called to the blaze at a ground-floor flat at the property in Orsett Terrace, Paddington, at about 0330 BST on Sunday.

Firefighters rescued one woman who had been overcome by smoke but she was pronounced dead later.

A spokeswoman for the brigade said seven other people managed to get out of the building before the fire crews arrived.

A investigation has been started into the cause of the blaze, which took firefighters about an hour to extinguish.
